It’s very important to know what foods we are putting in our bodies and we know that! We all know we shouldn’t eat fatty fried foods, excessive amounts of candy etc. However, knowing how these certain foods react in your body is even better. And by knowing this is to know if the foods are acidic, neutral or alkaline.

In my last post I’d share the 5 benefits of an Alkaline Diet, but let’s get into a little more this week about which foods are beneficial and meets the estimates of being considered alkaline or not shall we!

In order to know if the food is acidic or alkaline forming foods all narrows down to how the body typically reacts to certain foods.

Here are a few examples that break down the most foods in the category of acidic, neutral and alkaline just so you can start getting the idea of how categorizing works.

Certain food groups are considered acidic, alkaline or neutral:

Acidic: Meat, poultry, fish, dairy, eggs, grains and alcohol.

Neutral: Natural fats, starches and sugars.

Alkaline: Fruits, nuts, legumes and vegetables.

Here are a few more examples that breaks down a few more alkalizing foods categorized by vegetables, fruits, proteins and spices:

Examples of Alkalizing Vegetables: Beets, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Celery, Cucumber, Kale, Lettuce, Onions, Peas, Peppers, Spinach

Examples of Alkalizing Fruits: Apple, Pear, Banana, Berries, Cantaloupe, Grapes, Melon, Lemon, Orange, Peach, Watermelon

**Now many may consider citrus fruit acidic because it’s a citrus fruit, but remember we are talking about the reaction it gives to the body, which allows alkalizing benefits**

Alkalizing Protein: Almonds, Chestnuts, Tofu

Alkalizing Spices: Cinnamon, Curry, Ginger, Mustard, Sea Salt

Now I would like to go a little more on depth about proteins and their PH, which identifies is to be acidic, neutral or alkaline. By no mean am I implying to eat ALL alkaline foods and drink nothing but alkaline water, there is a such thing called BALANCE. There are many sources of protein that people chose to opt for that does fall into the “ACIDIC” category such as animal sources of proteins like chicken, beef, eggs. The body is able to maintain a relatively steady pH with the intake of some acidic foods ad well as alkaline foods. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables in the alkaline diet does offer many great benefits, generally because of their nutritional value of course. If you do happen to eat animal sources of protein be sure that it is a more lean protein with less fat, like skinless chicken breast, fish and serve with fruits and veggies for the most nutritional benefits.

In addition for a full guide of foods I have found a great resource: Greenopedia that provides a full alkaline-acidic food charts as a general guide to follow check it out the website and use as a source to help you create more balanced meals.

Hope this helps, if so share this article with others. Thanks for reading!
