If the body is lacking potassium common symptoms such as dehydration, severe headaches, heart palpitations, swelling of glands and tissues can occur. Although potassium deficiency is rare, low levels of potassium are primarily caused by failing to properly hydrate after exercise, vomiting, diarrhea and a diet low in fruits and vegetables.
