Fat Vs Muscle! Why You Should Focus On Losing Fat & Building Muscle vs Losing Weight?

Look at the difference in volume between 5 pounds of muscle and 5 pounds of fat. Sure, they may weigh the exact same but they are not the same size. Muscle takes up less space in your body and is more metabolically active than fat, burning fat from your body even when you are sleeping.

When building muscle, you can actually get smaller inch-wise and still weigh exactly the same weight-wise. However, the more muscle you have, the more fat your body will burn, so you'll eventually drop weight as well or for some individuals could gain weight because they have gained muscle mass depending on their body composition.
SO HOW DO I TRACK MY WEIGHT LOSS?
The best way to track is measure your muscle to fat ratio. To do so is to monitor your weight and body fat percentage, you can get devices that help you monitor your body fat or have a fitness professional to assist you by using a caliper which is more accurate! Remember, this is just an estimate IT IS NOT the EXACT measurement . The key is to have a base and keep track so you can see if you are gaining or losing fat or muscle.
Also BE SURE to take your measurements. Being that the scale can get tricky at times, if you take your waist measurements it will help you to know if your on the right track. I will post on a future post more about measurements and how to record your measurement accurately. SHARE this post to motivate others to burn fat and build muscle!
